Sun Wah Centre: Gallery Tours and a Studio Visit
May 23, 2023 | 5:00 PM
Please join us in exploring the vibrant art scene in Chinatown at the Sun Wah Centre where we will tour the galleries of Centre A and Canton-Sardine, followed by a studio visit with the artist Lam Wong.
At Centre A is the exhibition and when you return, we will talk again, about a collection of works from artists Bharat Choudhary, Kamesh Bharadwaj, and Pahul Singh that explores complex narratives of migration that extend across South Asia and its diaspora, transcending political borders and examining themes of belonging and estrangement. Find more information on the exhibition at the gallery’s website here.
Our second stop will be at Canton-Sardine where the exhibition The Saboteur by artist Wang Ningde is now on view. The work begins as photography, then Ningde layers on painted strokes and collage images of conflict, breaking the boundaries of the medium. This is the artist’s inaugural solo exhibition in Canada. Read more about it on the gallery’s website here.
We’ll round out the night at the studio of artist Lam Wong, who will speak on his latest project. Wong is a visual artist and curator who immigrated from Hong Kong to Canada during the 1980s and studied design, art history and painting in Alberta and BC. He works with painting, installation and performance to engage with themes such as the perception of reality, the role of art and the relationship between time, memory and space.
We hope you can join us for this exciting event. Spaces are limited – book here to reserve your spot!
