Studio Visit

Annie Briard is a Vancouver and Montreal based artist whose work challenges visual perception. Through video, photography and installation, she explores the gaps and intersections between perception paradigms including vision psychology, neuroscience and existentialist theory.

Solo exhibitions of her work have been presented across Canada notably at Back Gallery Project and VIVO (Vancouver), Joyce Yahouda Gallery (Montreal), La maison des artistes visuels (Winnipeg), and Center 3 (Hamilton). Her work has been shown in group exhibitions locally and abroad, including at On Main Gallery, Access Gallery, Gallery 295, Charles H. Scott Gallery, Capture Photography Festival (Vancouver), Art Souterrain and Nuit Blanche (Montreal) and as part of a 10-city tour of China for Canadian Cameras at Work in 2011. She has also participated in international festivals, fairs and screenings in New York, Rio de Janeiro, Madrid, and Paris among others. Annie has produced projects while in residency at the Banff Centre, in Halifax, in Spain and in New York, and is the recipient of grants from the Canada Council and the British Columbia Art Council.

In conjunction with her practice, Annie is a university instructor and has directed artist-run centres including Studio XX, Projects Contraste and most recently CARFAC BC. She holds a BFA from Concordia University, and an MAA from Emily Carr University. Her work is represented by Joyce Yahouda Gallery and Back Gallery Project.

Please note that we will be having a special reception after the studio visit at the artist’s home.
