Diyan Achjadi works with printmaking, drawing, and animation to investigate the ways that the circulation and dissemination of mass-media images in popular culture contribute to the formation of knowledge. Her artwork has been exhibited widely, including at The Art Gallery of Greater Victoria (solo), The Ottawa Art Gallery, The Richmond Art Gallery (solo), The Mendel Art Gallery, Oboro, the Kamloops Art Gallery, Galerie M-A-I, Centre A, The Bronx Museum for the Arts, AIR Gallery (solo), and Aljira Centre for Contemporary Art. Her animations have been screened at venues such as the Festival of Films on Art (Montreal), Images Festival (Toronto), Les Instants Video (Manoque), Interactions XVI(Sardinia) and Kinofilm (Manchester, UK). She has participated in residencies at the Banff Centre, Frans Masereel Centrum (Belgium), Vermont Studio Centre, and Open Studio. In 2011 she completed a series of animations, Girl in the City, as a public art project for the City of Vancouver, and a series of digital prints, Here is There is Here, as a public art project for the City of Richmond. Achjadi received a BFA from the Cooper Union School of Art (1993) and an MFA from Concordia University (2002). Born in Jakarta, Indonesia, Achjadi currently lives and works in Vancouver, BC, where she is faculty at the Emily Carr University, teaching courses in Print Media, Foundation, and Visual Arts.
