Omer Arbel graduated from the University of Waterloo School of Architecture in the summer of 2000. After tenures at the studios of Enric Miralles, John and Patricia Patkau, and Peter Busby, Omer opened the OAO in January of 2006. Omer Arbel Office – OAO – is a Vancouver based practice operating within the fields of architecture, industrial design, and material research.

Omer\’s debut piece, the 1.1 shelf, was a finalist for a 2003 D&AD Yellow Pencil award, and narrowly lost in the final round of judging to the G4 imac by Apple Computers. The 2.4 cast resin lounge chair won the Chicago Athenaeum\’s 2003 Good Design Award, a 2004 ID Magazine Design Review Honorable Mention, and was also a finalist for a 2004 Yellow Pencil. The 2.4 chair was accessioned to the permanent collection of the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design and exhibited all over the world. Due to the success of the 2.4 chair, Omer was selected from an international pool of candidates by the 2003 Wallpaper magazine Design Review as one of 15 up and coming designers of our generation. More recently, the 14 Series cast glass pendants were shortlisted for an iF product design award and for the \’Best Newcomer\” Blueprint award. North American manufacturing rights of the 14 series have been licensed to Bocci (www.bocci.ca), a small Vancouver based design and manufacturing house for whom Omer is acting as Creative Director.

Omer is currently working on a house in White Rock, a complete interior for a waterfront penthouse in Vancouver, an interior for a renovated loft, also in Vancouver, and various new furniture pieces.
