Mina Totino is an international exhibited artist, who showed notably at the 1985 Young Romantics show at the Vancouver Art Gallery and a 1997 solo show at the Belkin. In the summer of 2008, she showed at Diaz Contemporary in Toronto in a show curated by Elizabeth Mcintosh with works by Monique Mouton and Sally Speth called Working Title, and was most recently featured in a Charles H. Scott show entitled, A situation wherein some ideas about painting are furthered by means of a quantity of small squares.
She also launched a book called I Look Up, Volume One, 1997 – 2000, the first of three volumes presenting the artist’s Polaroid photographs of clouds taken from 1997 to 2010.
The text from her 2008 show at Diaz Contemporary reads:
“The elements with which the paintings are composed – including the size and direction of the brush marks, the visible layers of colour, the viscosity of the paint, the negotiation of the edges and the idiosyncrasies of format – are the subject of the work. The transparency of the surface is quite literal in each of their methods, however, the labour of their thought and the results in paint demand a durational response.”
