The Contemporary Art Society of Vancouver was pleased to have been invited to a December visit with artist Damian Moppett at this studio.
Damian Moppett lives and works in Vancouver. His work is analytical, conceptual, and highly referential in both form and content. Moppett explores the process of craft-making and how fixated and introverted people can become when trying to master a certain technique to perfection. Moppett also focuses on his own skills; he produces work that spans the entire range of media including painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, film and ceramics.
His solo-exhibitions include Yvon Lambert, New York, (2009); Temple University Gallery, Philadelphia (2009); Catriona Jeffries Gallery, Vancouver (2007); and Carleton University Art Gallery, Ottawa, (2006).
Group shows include How Soon is Now, Vancouver Art Gallery, (2009); Reskilling The Western Front, Vancouver, (2009); Comic Relief, National Gallery of Canada Ottawa, (2008); Filiations Conceptuelles /Conceptual Filiations, Leonard & Bina Ellen Art Gallery, at Concordia University, Montreal, (2009); Process as Work, Catriona Jeffries Gallery, Vancouver, (2008); and Don Quijote, Witte de With, Rotterdam, (2006).
In November 2011, the Rennie Collection will be showing a solo exhibition of the artist’s work.
