Join us on January 30th for a studio visit with Barb Choit.

Within her work, Barb Choit explores collecting as a creative activity. Her recent projects have involved cultivating and maintaining collections of objects and images. Choit acquires commonplace objects that have been discarded or ignored, yet are culturally significant. She questions the obsession our culture has with acquiring objects and how this accumulation defines us as individuals.

Choit presents her collections in a variety of media such as photographs, installations, performances or websites. She often borrows institutional or commercial methods of display, creating fictional archives, museums or boutiques.

She considers collecting to be an ongoing process of accumulation that spills from her studio into her daily routine. Her current work explores shopping as a form of personal expression.
