Join us for an Artist Talk with Karen Zalamea

 

Wednesday, March 21, 2018 (7:00pm to 8:30pm)

The Contemporary Art Society of Vancouver presents an intimate evening with Karen Zalamea at the Burrard Arts Foundation in anticipation of her upcoming exhibition, Ka-ren Zalamea: When the sun rises, we keep the fire aflame at the Burrard Arts Foundation. The CASV will have an exclusive look at the exhibition before it opens to the public on Thursday, March 22nd.

 

ABOUT:

Karen Zalamea is an artist and educator based in Vancouver, Canada. She is currently artist-in-residence at Burrard Arts Foundation, and has previously participated in residencies at SÍM (Reykjavík), Espace Marie Chouinard (Montréal), and Sagamie (Alma). Her work has received support from the Canada Council for the Arts, the British Columbia Arts Council, and the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec. She received the inaugural Sylvie and Simon Blais Foundation Award for Emerging Visual Artists upon completing her MFA.

 

Zalamea’s work has been presented across Canada and internationally in solo and group exhibitions, at art fairs, and as public art projects, including Galerie Simon Blais (Montréal), Franc Gallery (Vancouver), Gallery 44 Centre for Contemporary Photography (Toronto), Dalhousie Art Gallery (Halifax), Dazibao (Montréal), SÍM House (Reykjavík), Art on Paper (New York), Feature Contemporary Art Fair (Toronto), Nuit Blanche Toronto, and Eject (Mexico City) among others.

 

She received an MFA from Concordia University, and a BFA from Emily Carr University of Art + Design, where she is an instructor in the Audain Faculty of Art.

 

Karen Zalamea: When the sun rises, we keep the fire aflame opens at the Burrard Arts Foundation on Thursday, March 22nd in the evening. The exhibition will be on view from March 22 to May 12, 2018.
