Studio Visit with Emily Hermant and Landon Mackenzie

Join us for a visit to the studios of artists Emily Hermant and Landon Mackenzie to discuss their practice and work in progress on upcoming shows. It takes place in the longstanding artists’ studio, unofficially called Studio 188, which has been hosting artists since 1986.
Emily Hermant is an interdisciplinary artist whose work explores themes of communication, technology, and craft. She received her BFA in Studio Arts from Concordia University in Montréal and her MFA in Fiber and Material Studies from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Hermant has exhibited in museums, galleries, and festivals in Canada and internationally. She has been awarded grants from the Social Sciences and Humanities Council (SSHRC), BC Arts Council, and the Canada Council for the Arts. Hermant is an Associate Professor of Sculpture + Expanded Practices at Emily Carr University of Art + Design. She is represented by the Monte Clark Gallery where she will be having a solo exhibition opening on 16 November 2024.
Landon Mackenzie has built an impressive body of work and is known for her rigorous large-format paintings. Her work has been exhibited in over 100 exhibitions across Canada and internationally and is collected by museums including the National Gallery of Canada, Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, and the Vancouver Art Gallery to name a few. Based in Vancouver, she was an influential educator at Emily Carr University. She studied at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD), Halifax (1972-1975), and Concordia University, Montreal (1976-1979) and has been honoured with numerous awards including the Governor General’s Award in Visual and Media Arts in 2017.
