Please join us for a Studio Visit with Allan Switzer.
Switzer is a multi-disciplinary Vancouver artist, who was born in Calgary. A product of Vancouver sensibilities and his philosophy degree from York University, Switzer was also shaped by the second generation conceptualists of the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design who were among his instructors at Emily Carr University of Art + Design. He uses motifs of abstraction, minimalist grids, stripes and images, and fonts to explore artistic pathology—sifting through the remains of modernist art—and inquiries into the properties and procedures of painting.
