Intro to Collecting Contemporary
Sunday, December 4, 2011
Wanna be a Vogel? Herb and Dorothy proved that anyone can collect museum-quality contemporary art. You just need to train your eye. This is a one-hour seminar that will give you the basics of what you need to start looking. We will discuss where contemporary art can be viewed in Vancouver, how to feel comfortable stepping into a gallery and how to embark on your first purchase. Resources for learning more about art, artists and collecting will also be covered.
Please join Carol-Ann Ryan as she shares her experiences from the commercial gallery world as a gallery assistant, private collections manager and art collector. Carol-Ann has taught courses on Collecting Contemporary Art for Continuing Studies programs at the University of Toronto and Ontario College of Art & Design. She has also led workshops on the topic for ArtScene Toronto and the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art, Toronto.
